It is 9:20am. We are here at the airport on Balta because, well, where else would you go to catch a boat? A couple of iguanas had wandered forward to sun themselves on the asphalt but flight time is approaching. The area is getting too busy so the iguanas retreated.

Our boat crew will meet us at the airport. They don't seem to have any other procedure so here we are. We have taken a ferry across the channel to Baltra and the bus to the airport for the express purpose of retracing our steps with guide and sheep to spend much of the day exploring the Island we were already on. Ah, well. There are merits to this boat trip, I swear.

The underwater world is a little more proven. We spent the last couple of days diving Gordon Rocks. This is considered the best dive site near Santa Cruz. Enormous schools of fish surround. But cold, dark, and a bit murky. Dim outlines compete with the cold and currents for attention, too far to reach. Manta rays and hammerhead sharks are clearly identified but not really seen. photo of sea lion
Still, I found enough close action to photograph. Mostly turtles and sea lions but also some smaller fish. I found my camera's secret diving mode so the colors for yesterday's dive are true to life. But no more diving for a while. The focus moves to dry land with a promise to return to deep on the 7th, one island over. photo of sea turtle
