Suzie Wants to Play

It was nearly 11:30 on the 23d. We were scheduled to check out of Porring Hot Springs at noon. Dan came in looking for his camera saying that an orangutan had been seen at the botanical garden.

Off we went, all over the garden before we found a group of peoples and Suzie: a 4 year old Orang. Suzie was rescued as a youngster by a nearby village and released into the park. Soon it was just Dan and I and Suzie. We decided to move on and Suzie happily gave chase. She followed us out the gate and briefly climbed through a window into a park service building. After being evicted, she followed us to the ticket boot of the garden. When we last saw Suzie, the ticket agent was struggling to convince Suzie to turn around and go back without getting too close. Even young Orangs are very strong.

On the way out, we stopped to see a Raflesia and then continued by bus to Sepilok.
