Making the most of a muddy confluence

Let's see, I had 3 full days Kuala Lumpur (litteraly "muddy confluence")

Day 1) Quest for a tripod. I didn't bring a tripod last trip and as a result, I wasn't able to get photos of the Lunar rainbows at Victoria Falls. This time, I bought one on Ebay but it didn't arrive before I left. Ultimately, what I bought in KL is a lot bigger and heavier than the one from Ebay. I'm pretty sure the little one would not have been stable with the telephoto lens. So I put down my RM 70 and will deal with the weight. Maybe I will send it home after I head for Bangkok. Beyond Borneo and Sumatra, I don't see much use 420mm lens (300mm + 1.4xTele) and a much smaller and lighter tripod will due for wide angle night shots.

Day 2) Batu Caves. Really just two very large but empty chambers. I didn't see a stalactite or stalag mite anywhere. But there was a hindu temple in one chamber and lots of monkeys. Fair bit of trash too. :-(

Day 3) I was going to go up into the Petronus Towers. I'm not sure if they still are, but at one time, they were the tallest buildings in the world. Tickets are free. Unfortunately, when I got there are 11:00am, all the tickets for the day were gone. So I went the KL tower instead and paid my RM 15. It was a bit of yawn, really. KL doesn't look much different than Singapore which doesn't look much different from, well, pretty much another other large, modern city.

Tomorrow morning, I'm off to Kuching. I hope not to get rained on too much. The word is that this *used* to be the wetest time of the year but the seasons have been pretty goofy the last few years. And most of the information is about Saba. Sarawak might be drier and I probably won't reach Saba until near January.
