Asian Epilog

I saw comparatively little of Thailand on this trip. Kao Yai deserved much more time. Many, many places were skipped entirely. But this does not trouble me much. Thailand is an accessible place. Epic journeys are not required to taste its delights. Standard vacation time will do. I say with confidence that I will come again.

It was just as well that I skipped the city sight seeing. The bus back to Bangkok consumed half the following day. Various preparations for the trip home consumed all that remained and seriously encroached on the time I should have been sleeping. I made a feeble attempt to find a pair of sandals that fit. No success, but none was expected either.

Aside from minor edits and the part your are reading now, the last three installments were written on the plane between Bangkok and Tokyo. I would have sent them earlier if not for a peculiar thing about public internet access. Instead of getting better in 1st world countries, it actually gets worse. Oh, the machines get faster and so do the links but, in the name of security, functionality is actually curtailed, drastically. In Bangkok, I could sync my palm, dump images from a digital camera, and, in many places had access to the full MS Office suite. In Silicon Valley, I can only browse the web.

And so we reach the end that is beyond the end, to the world of sky high cost of living, and poor job prospects. I don't know quite what the future holds but it probably does not involve travel, not for a couple of years anyway.
